Dine with history

Parliamentary Catering provides in-house event and day-to-day catering services to New South Wales Parliament House.

Parliamentary Catering has long played host to a high calibre of esteemed guests, from Heads of State, World Leaders, Consul Generals and Ambassadors, to Hollywood stars and British royalty. Guests among the famous names include King Charles III, the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the late Diana, Princess of Wales, Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh and Actress Audrey Hepburn.

The very talented culinary team have a breadth of experience and strive to provide an equally high level of service while showcasing the wonderful delicacies, fresh flavours and unique food & wine regions of New South Wales.

Parliamentary Catering proudly supports local communities from rural New South Wales, who practice ethical and sustainable farming methods.

Strangers’ Restaurant

Strangers’ Restaurant provides a rare opportunity for the public to experience fine dining at Parliament House. Open Monday to Friday from 12 pm to 3 pm for lunch and 6 pm to 9pm for Dinner on Parliament Sitting Nights. Bookings are essential. Read more.

High Tea

High Tea is served every Friday in the Strangers’ Restaurant from 12 pm to 3 pm. Bookings are essential. Read more.

Public Café

The Public Cafe provides a casual environment to enjoy a coffee or light lunch. Open Monday to Friday from 9:30 am to 4 pm, bookings are not required, walk-in service applies. Hot meals are available from 11:30 am to 2:15 pm.

Functions & Events

There are nine unique event spaces within Parliament House that are available to hire, including a stunning auditorium, a large dining room with garden views and a majestic library which dates back to 1905. To learn more, please click here.

Explore

Explore Australia’s oldest Parliament

Located within Sydney’s historic precinct, this heritage-listed building is rich in history and full of hidden surprises.

The colonnaded façade facing Macquarie Street is the last remaining feature of the original Rum Hospital, built 1816. Through careful modifications and restorative work over the years, this remarkable building has evolved to accommodate the two democratically elected Houses of NSW Parliament, the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council.

Gift Shop

Located within the Public Cafe behind the central fountain, open Monday to Friday from 9:30 am to 4 pm. The Gift Shop stocks an incredible range of items sourced from local farmers, designers and artists. Items include a selection of soy candles, raw honey, artisan chocolates, organic skincare products, handcrafted ceramics, stationery items, rural postcards, parliamentary books and locally designed indigenous products.

Public Tours

Explore the Parliament with a free one hour guided tour. The tour is conducted in English and is suitable for visitors of all ages. Art Exhibitions

Visitors can witness the working parliament, discover key moments in the history of Australian politics and explore the impressive collection of artwork. The Exhibit wall located within the Fountain Court features rotating art displays throughout the year and is free to explore. Open Monday to Friday between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Post Office

The Post Office is located within the Fountain Court and is open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.
