Six Aboriginal guest chefs will showcase native ingredients throughout the month of June at Strangers’ Restaurant at NSW Parliament House.

Speaker of the NSW Legislative Assembly Jonathan O’Dea MP said the inaugural ‘Koori Kitchen Takeover’ event would see the next generation of Aboriginal chefs welcomed into the Parliament’s kitchens in the lead-up to NAIDOC Week in July.

“It is inspiring to see the exchange of ideas between these chefs at the start of their careers and the seasoned professionals at NSW Parliament House,” said Mr O’Dea.

The Koori Kitchen Takeover is a partnership with the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) and the National Indigenous Culinary Institute, featuring graduates from hospitality and culinary training programs. Some are already working in Sydney’s top restaurants, including Rockpool Bar and Grill, Bondi Icebergs and the Strangers’ Restaurant at NSW Parliament House.

The Strangers’ Restaurant menu, featuring the Koori Kitchen Takeover Contemporary Native Cuisine Experience menu will be available Monday to Thursday from 12noon to 3pm until 9 July 2021.
